What makes convertible ACs different from the usual

With increasing temperatures, air conditioners are an essential for every household. ACs are useful in the humid rains. If you have been looking for an AC, there are chances you may have come across convertible air conditioners. But what are they and how do they differ from the regular ones? Should you buy one? Here are all answers.

What are convertible air conditioners?

A convertible AC is a product designed for cooling, but with energy conservation in mind. Here is an example to better understand. If you have a 1.5 ton AC in your living room. When the room is filled with your friends and family, this capacity seems perfectly good for cooling. However, when you are alone it cools a lot more, and you start feeling cold quickly. You can raise the temperature but since your AC is operating at its designated output (i.e. 1.5 ton), you aren’t saving a lot of power.

Convertible ACs aim to solve this issue. They can work at variable cooling performances. For example, a 1.5 ton AC can operate at 1 ton or even 0.8 ton when needed. This may sound technical, but all this happens with the press of a button. Convertible ACs have modes that turn down the cooling capacity from 100 per cent to 80, 60 or 40 per cent. They adjust their motor rotation as per requirement, resulting in less power consumption than standard inverter ACs.

Selected models can even increase the cooling capacity when you need faster cooling. Higher-end convertible ACs also have sensors to detect people and automatically adjust their performance. This ultimately benefits you, as you can run your AC without worrying too much about electricity bills.

What other features should you look at while buying a convertible AC?

Convertible ACs represent the new phase of air conditioners, and many models come with impressive smart and durability features. Here are some of the important ones you shouldn’t miss out on.

Sleep Mode

Sleep Mode is one of the newest features introduced in ACs. Turning it on lowers the temperature by a degree every hour and raising it slowly as morning dawns. This eliminates the hassles of manually adjusting the temperature and ensures you can have a peaceful and uninterrupted sleep.

Advanced filters

Many convertible ACs also use advanced PM 2.5 filters to filter dust, pollen, bacteria and viruses. Higher-end models also come with in-built air quality sensors to check indoor air and speed up the purification process as required. You can also find convertible AC models that emit UV rays to sterilize the air.

Wi-Fi controls

Wi-Fi features in air conditioners have been around but was limited to expensive models. Luckily, you can now find this feature even on affordable convertible AC models. Wi-Fi connected ACs offer flexibility, letting you pre-cool your room while you are still at work. Some AC also support Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, allowing you to set temperature and change modes using voice commands.

Stabilizer-free operation

Convertible ACs use inverter ACs compressor, which means they can even operate if your home or office has unstable power, with voltage fluctuations. This eliminates the need for a separate stabilizer. Convertible ACs generally have an operating range between 130 to 290V, so they can deliver stable cooling and operation.

Auto-Cleaning

Cleaning ACs can often be a hassle, but convertible AC’s use an auto-clean feature that claim to strip off the dust from coils through frosting and defrosting. The entire process can take anywhere between 10 to 15 minutes. This feature ensures you breathe clean air while also taking care of your AC’s efficiency.

High Ambient Cooling

It is important to choose an AC that can handles rising temperature levels. Luckily, most convertible ACs can deliver powerful cooling even if the temperatures reach 54C.

Convertible ACs can soon take over inverted ACs due to their versatility. Currently, the price gap between an inverter AC and a convertible AC is negligible so it makes perfect sense to choose one and start saving on energy bills. As brands like LG and Samsung are introducing convertible AC models, we might see them getting even more affordable in the future.

Reliance Digital is currently running an offer on Hisense convertible ACs, where you can get a 1-ton model for as low as Rs. 25,990*. This is a great deal, as it is nearly impossible to find even an inverter AC at this price. There are additional cashback offers too, so don’t miss out on this deal.
