FAQs (TP-Link TL-WR720N Wireless Router)
How to find the hardware version on a TP-Link device?
Some TP-Link products may have more than one hardware version. For example, a name ending with V1, V2, etc. <streong>Using the label on the back of the device</streong> <striong>For most of products</striong> Turn over the device so you can see a label on the back or bottom of the unit. Look for a character string next to the serial number, the looks like: “VER X.X”. This is the hardware version of the device. <p align="center"><img src="https://www.reliancedigital.in/medias/TP-Link-ARCHER-Routers-40?context=bWFzdGVyfGltYWdlc3w5MDA3N3xpbWFnZS9qcGVnfGltYWdlcy9oZTYvaDdhLzk4NDcxODkyNzQ2NTQuanBnfDVlMjQ4MjgyNGZjNTk5ZWJmMjUzMjVlMjYwZmMwOGRhZTYxN2MzNmZjMDcyZTBjMzVlNmI1MjBjMTA0MTJlNDI" width="100%" height="100%" style="max-height:216px;max-width:624px;"> Note 1: The firmware of EU and US are different hardware versions, do not use each other's firmware to upgrade your device. <p align="center"><img src="https://www.reliancedigital.in/medias/TP-Link-ARCHER-Routers-41?context=bWFzdGVyfGltYWdlc3w2MDY0MnxpbWFnZS9qcGVnfGltYWdlcy9oNDAvaGIxLzk4NDcxODkzNDAxOTAuanBnfDY5YzkyYTQ0NDI4YTBkMzk0YTQ3YjU4MDFmYTkwOTU4M2RiZGYzMmFmNmE5MTdiOGRmMTE2ZjU3ODcyNDEzM2U" width="100%" height="100%" style="max-height:400px;max-width:493px;"> Note 2: Please pay attention to the following 4 models of cable modem that have some special condition. The real hardware version can be found on the left part of the label. But there is another version which is higher than it marked on the right part, which is the version stands for new Visual Interface. TC-7610(US) 1.0, TC-7620(US) 1.0, TC-W7960 (US) 1.0, Archer CR700 (US) 1.0 <p align="center"><img src="https://www.reliancedigital.in/medias/TP-Link-ARCHER-Routers-42?context=bWFzdGVyfGltYWdlc3w2OTkwNXxpbWFnZS9qcGVnfGltYWdlcy9oMDIvaGY0Lzk4NDcxODkzNzI5NTguanBnfDJmM2ExYWY4NTY3OWE3YTRkMjNhMzllZDg5YmM4NjU2MjhhMzM5YzJlYzU1ZjRkMThiNDE0ODE1NWUxN2E3N2Q" width="100%" height="100%" style="max-height:258px;max-width:424px;">
Using the engraved characters on the device
For products (USB adapters) without labels:
The number at the end of the FCC ID indicates the hardware version. If there is no version number, like V2, after the model number, that means it’s version 1. <p align="center"><img src="https://www.reliancedigital.in/medias/TP-Link-ARCHER-Routers-43?context=bWFzdGVyfGltYWdlc3wzODE1OXxpbWFnZS9qcGVnfGltYWdlcy9oMjcvaGUzLzk4NDcxODkzMDc0MjIuanBnfDk0MmVhMzc4MmZiNzNmYmY2Yzk2MGUwMjdiMDhjNDFmZjcyOGI3ZDU2MjMxNjY3YjFkZmU5OTQ2ZWNjODI5M2U" width="100%" height="100%" style="max-height:280px;max-width:240px;">
Using the management interface of the device
For products with management interface:
Open a web browser and enter the domain name which can vary between units in the address bar. The address for your device can be found on the label on the back or bottom of the unit. The default login credential is ‘admin’ for both username and password. Below are the official domains currently in use: Router - http://tplinkwifi.net Cable Modem Router & DSL - http://tplinkmodem.net Range Extender - http://tplinkrepeater.net Wireless PLC - http://tplinkplc.net There is a character string “Ver:X.Y” (for example, Ver:1.0) in the Serial Number field, and the number X is the hardware version of the device. If the string is “Ver: 1.1”, normally it means that the hardware version is V1. Different model has different management interface.
How to reset TP-Link router to factory defaults ?
Notice:
1. A hard reset will restore your device to factory default settings. You should reconfigure the device from scratch or you can load the configuration file you have backed up before the reset. 2. For these models, we could see WPS/RESET button on the rear panel/the Front Panel. To use WPS function, please push the button for less than 5 seconds, and then the WPS LED will flash; to reset the router, please push the button for at least 10 seconds. There are two methods to reset to the Router's factory defaults:
Method 1: Hard reset/By pressing the RESET button
With the Router powered on, press and hold the WPS/RESET button (more than 10 seconds) until the SYS LED becomes quick-flash from slow-flash. Then release the button and wait the Router to reboot to its factory default settings. <p align="center"><img src="reliancedigital.in/medias/TP-Link-Wi-Fi-Router-70?context=bWFzdGVyfGltYWdlc3w0ODA1OXxpbWFnZS9qcGVnfGltYWdlcy9oZDAvaDBjLzk4NDUyNjgyODM0MjIuanBnfDE1MWI3NDRmYTIzMWIzNTAyMjEwMDJiYmQ3ZmVjZDdlMmUxMjk0M2QwN2M5M2ZiZDQ4ZmZlNjk2NzA0NmMwYTI" width="100%" height="100%" style="max-height:192px;max-width:528px;">
Method 2: By Router's Web Interface
You may refer to How do I log into the web-based Utility (Management Page) of TP-Link wireless router?, then go to Advanced-> System Tools -> Backup & Restore -> Factory Default Restore page, then click on the Factory Restore and wait the Router to reboot to its factory default settings. <p align="center"><img src="https://www.reliancedigital.in/medias/TP-Link-Wi-Fi-Router-71?context=bWFzdGVyfGltYWdlc3wxMTU2Mjh8aW1hZ2UvanBlZ3xpbWFnZXMvaDAyL2hmZS85ODQ1MjY4MjUwNjU0LmpwZ3wyN2RmMmE1YWE4YTY1NjMzMmE2ZTIyNzQ3OWUwY2I5OTFiNWQ1YmNjMTQxZjU0ZjJmNGE1Y2EyOTA5NzAwMjAw" width="100%" height="100%" style="max-height:359px;max-width:1193px;"> Note: 1. Make certain that the router is powered on before it restarts completely. 2. The default IP address/domain name can be found at the bottom label of the product, and the default login username and password both are admin (all lower case).
What can I do if I forget the login password of TP-Link Wireless Router?
For the old UI:
The default login username and password are both “admin”. If you have changed the login password, there is no way to find it. You need to reset it to factory default and configure it as a new one.
For the new UI:
It only asks for the login password which you have created in the first time you log in. If you forget it, you need to reset it.
How to reset the router?
Directly press and hold the reset button on the rear panel with a pin for approximately 10 seconds when the device is running. <p align="center"><img src="https://www.reliancedigital.in/medias/TP-Link-Wi-Fi-Router-41?context=bWFzdGVyfGltYWdlc3w0MjM0MHxpbWFnZS9qcGVnfGltYWdlcy9oMzYvaGQyLzk4NDUyNjY3MTA1NTguanBnfDY2ZjE5YzhmYWZlYWJmY2ZiNmNhZjhkYzk3NTM5ODA4ZWJlOWMzZTU5MmI4NTA1OGY4NjliNTE3YmNiMzU2ZjA" width="100%" height="100%" style="max-height:81px;max-width:554px;"> Release the reset button and wait for the device to reboot.
Note:
1. Make certain that the router is powered on before it restarts completely. 2. The default IP address is 192.168.0.1(or http://tplinkwifi.net ), and the default login username and password both are admin (all lower case). 3. Ensure that the IP address of your computer is in the same subnet as the device. It means that your computer has an IP address 192.168.0.X (X is in the range of 2~253), and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.
